Stay away from Lunarpages

Page history last edited by Alex Backer, Ph.D. 16 years ago

I hosted two of our servers with Lunarpages.com, and I have been twice unhappy with their service. Once their machine crashed and we lost valuable data that had not been backed up because a backup limit was exceeded. The second time it went offline for hours, we were not notified, and were told that we could not talk to the person who was working on it, which means that we could give no special instructions on the versions of software we needed reinstalled. They put up no notice page, so visitors to our site would just be unable to connect. It gets worse than this: they put the machine down on purpose, because they found the configuration altered after we downgraded apache versions. So they just put the computer offline in the middle of the day for hours, upgraded apache, breaking our software, and deleted all our hard work of configuration w/o previously backing it up. All without first picking up the phone to talk to us or sending us any sort of communication whatsoever. Then they claimed it was our fault, because "we pay them for managed hosting, which means they fix stuff without having to involve us". So I guess we pay them to break stuff without involving us either.

In short, in my experience, LunarPages sucks.
